SMALLNOTE PRIVACY · OCTOBER 30, 2026
Your pages.
Your business.
Smallnote has no separate account, advertising, tracking or third-party analytics SDKs. AIS Consulting does not operate a server for your notebooks.
Who provides Smallnote?
Smallnote is provided by AIS Consulting UG. Current provider and postal details are available in our legal notice. For privacy questions, email hello@ais-con.com. Our website privacy notice separately covers this website, its hosting and contact services.
Notes and notebook data
Notebooks, typed text, drawings, selected photos, decorations, handwriting samples and settings are stored on your device. Smallnote does not send notebook contents to AIS Consulting. No advertising identifier is requested and no usage profile is created by us.
Optional iCloud sync
If you enable sync and are signed in to iCloud, Smallnote uses Apple’s CloudKit private database in your own iCloud account. Notebook data, including note text, drawings, photos, handwriting samples, notebook appearance and any location saved with a note, can synchronize across your devices. Global preferences may remain device-specific. Apple provides and processes the iCloud service under its own privacy policy and your account settings. AIS Consulting does not receive access to your private notebook contents.
Optional location features
With your permission, Smallnote can save the place where a note was created, open a nearby note and show note locations on a map. Location is not used for advertising or sent to an AIS server. If iCloud sync is enabled, saved note locations are part of the synchronized note. Map display uses Apple Maps services, which may contact Apple to load map data.
Photos and the clipboard
The system photo picker gives Smallnote the photos you select. Pasting is initiated by you. Selected content becomes part of your notebook and follows your storage and sync choices. Smallnote does not scan your entire photo library.
Device authentication
Notebook and page locks use Apple’s LocalAuthentication framework. Smallnote receives the authentication result, not your Face ID biometric data or device passcode. A lock controls access within Smallnote; it is not a promise of separate end-to-end encryption for exported files or device backups.
Widgets, Shortcuts and Watch
Widgets use shared data on your device; locked content is excluded. Shortcuts handles text you choose to add. The Watch companion uses Apple’s WatchConnectivity to queue and transfer text notes to your paired iPhone. System dictation, Siri and Apple services operate according to your Apple settings; Smallnote does not operate a speech-recognition server.
Sharing is your choice
When you export or share a page, image, letter or PDF, your selected app or recipient receives the contents. Their privacy practices and retention rules apply to those copies.
Diagnostics and support
Smallnote includes no external crash-reporting or analytics SDK. Apple may process and make diagnostics available according to your device’s analytics settings. If you email us, we receive the message, contact details and attachments you choose to send. We use these to answer your request, retain them only as needed for support and any legal obligations, and do not use notebook content for advertising.
Your choices and deleting data
- Turn iCloud sync and location features off in Smallnote Settings. Revoke location permission in the system Settings app.
- Delete notebooks or pages in Smallnote. Torn-out pages remain recoverable for up to 30 days before cleanup.
- While sync is enabled, deletions can propagate to other devices. Turning sync off keeps local data and does not delete existing iCloud data.
- Manage Smallnote’s iCloud data and device backups in Apple’s system storage settings. Removing the app alone may leave cloud data or backups.
- Manage exported or shared copies at their destination. We cannot erase copies held by another recipient.
Legal bases and your rights
For personal data we receive through support, we process information to respond to your request and provide the service (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR, where applicable), for our legitimate interest in resolving issues and maintaining service quality (Article 6(1)(f)), or to meet a legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)). Optional device permissions and Apple services are controlled through your choices and their relevant terms.
Where applicable, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of personal data we hold, object to processing based on legitimate interests, or withdraw consent for future processing. You may complain to a competent data-protection authority. Contact us using the address above; contact Apple for information controlled by Apple. We cannot retrieve your private notebook contents for you.
Changes
We will update this policy if Smallnote’s data practices change. The date at the top identifies the current version.
